December is a tough month. We’re wrapping up our work for the year, trying to shed any extra stress from the past months and possibly feeling a bit creatively dead.

Here are my top 5 videos to inspire and rekindle your creativity. I hope these will give you some direction for 2014 and ignite in you many creative possibilities.

1.    How to Be Creative

This is a fantastic video on how to be creative. It describes the process of pursuing an idea as being of utmost importance.  Understanding how to work creatively is also a key part of creativity. It is of importance to allow oneself the despair of creativity – that it’s not that easy to create and that it is about really hard work too.

Ira Glass explains why what you make creatively is usually not great to start off with and that everyone experiences this. The challenge is to do a huge volume of work so you can practise extensively and reach excellence.

3. Creativity Requires Time

This video examines the link between creativity and time and why good ideas ultimately take more time to produce. It shows that creativity is best fostered by the freedom of playfulness and fun and hence, requires more time. 

4. Building Your Creative Confidence 

David Kelly discusses how to build your creative confidence using an example from psychologist Bandura who helped people overcome their fear of snakes. Kelly also discusses how he himself thought about his calling when he was diagnosed with cancer. He found his calling to help people regain their creative confidence to do those things that are really important to them.

5. John Cleese on Creativity

John Cleese talks about the process of creativity and how it has impacted his life. He speaks about creating boundaries of space and the importance of giving yourself a starting time and an ending time for the creative process.
