After seeing the excitement of last year’s WordCount Blogathon and observing the myriad of tweets in my Twitter stream (albeit with a feeling of jealousy), I decided to take the opportunity to write into my own hands. There’s nothing to it really. Deciding to do something is only half of the battle won. And then there is my sense of guilt for not having seen something through to the end. So I know I have it in me to write a valuable post a day for 30 days and do it properly. There are no more options really, no backing out and no opting for an easier route. I’m in and here are my reasons for joining numerous other bloggers in this creative quest:
- I’m sick of deleting emails for hours on end and letting them take over my evenings. They are dampening my productivity and my creativity. I want my blog to be a creative outlet. The first place I go to when I want to unwind and write.
- I love seeing and experiencing new things and I want my blog to be a reflection of my insatiable desire for knowledge and beauty.
- At the moment my blog is just a handful of posts that are all over the place. Some sort of structure would be fantastic.
- I need a good kick in the behind and some motivation to blog after hours. I have a full-time writing job and it’s not that easy to continue working at the computer after hours (especially when the weather is so good outside).
- I’ve recently made some life changing decisions on my own (such as moving to Europe from South Africa) and so I think a blog is a great way to write about my experiences. I also think many people would be able to relate to moving to another country and would find solace in my writing.
- As a writer I want to develop my skills and if I do so continuously for 30 days I’m hoping I’ll keep up a similar blogging schedule for the rest of the year.
- I importantly want to connect with other bloggers (and hopefully some South African bloggers too!). I absolutely love how social media has the ability to connect us all together and I’ve ‘met’ some fascinating ‘tweeps’ along the way so I’m sure I’ll get a lot out of blogging with likeminded folk.
- I hope that the WordCount Blogathon 2013 will help keep my writing stamina going and that this will lead to a larger project that I could perhaps turn into an eBook.
- I’ve learnt so much in life, in my career and also in my travels and I would love to write about what I know in order to inspire and motivate others to never settle for the dull and the ordinary.
- I think the WordCount Blogathon 2013 will help me deal with my perfectionism as it means I have limited time in the evening to produce something great and worth reading. This is a challenge for me because when it comes to my own blog posts I like to sit for hours and mull over each and every sentence.
- The WordCount Blogathon 2013 poses a challenge that I find very exciting (but also a little nerve-wracking!). It means I have to be exceptionally disciplined to go for a walk each and every afternoon after work, make dinner and then knuckle down to my posts.
Are you doing the WordCount Blogathon 2013? I’d love to hear about your own reasons for participating below. If you haven’t registered just yet or if you need more information, visit WordCount now. The Blogathon is a great way to get motivated about your blog and connect with likeminded bloggers. Who knows where this opportunity may lead?
You write so beautifully and I’m sure that you will have loads of people waiting in anticipation for your next blog post
Thanks so much mom :-)
Good for you for joining us this year. The key is planning out posts in advance — participating in the handful of theme days that are part of the blogathon can help.
The number of people outside the United States who do the blogathon grows every year, which is another reason why I’m very excited you’re joining us. I just hope the 10 a.m. Pacific (Los Angeles) time chats at the beginning and end won’t be too inconvenient.

Thanks so much Michelle. Yes I have a feeling the 10 a.m Pacific time is going to be quite tricky but I’ll try my best. If not, then I will still follow these and write my posts.
You have a very beautiful blog. I will be visiting often for inspiration :-)
Thanks so much :-) Really appreciate it! I’m just starting out.
Thanks so much :-) Really appreciate it!
Welcome to the 2013 Blogathon. I think you will find the experience everything you thought it would be, and more. My first one gave me the blogging every day habit (I haven’t stopped) and the knowledge that there was a community of wonderful bloggers out there. The second one gave me the courage to join Twitter. This will be my third one, and I would not miss it for anything.
Thanks very much Alana. Lovely to connect with you and I look forward to reading your blog!
